My Experience
My name is Dawn, and I am a psychotherapist with an extensive post-graduate training in counselling psychology and around fifteen years experience as a therapist. I focus on you as an individual person.
My experience involves a broad range of settings. I currently work in an NHS service with serious mental illness, complex trauma and personality disorder as a therapist, manager and supervisor. I have extensive experience with concerns such as eating disorders, relationship difficulties, stress, work problems, low self-esteem, bereavement, anxiety, depression, stress, OCD, PTSD etc..
I have also worked with addiction, psychosis, bi-polar disorder, personality difficulties, complex trauma and abuse. I have worked with people with mild to severe learning disabilities, autism and Asperger's. I have experience with long term health conditions. I have worked on mental health wards, with neuro-psychological problems including dementia and acquired brain injury.
I have experience of and a particular interest in working with family conflict and mothers, parents and children where: the parents have adopted or fostered children, or where birth mothers or fathers have had their children removed or are living without them. I also have extensive experience helping adults who had a parent(s) with an alcohol or drug problem.
I have provided therapy to children for the last five years. From secondary school age I see them individually. Up to age 11, I meet your child with you the parents and then decide on how to proceed – this can involve behavioural strategies, therapy for your child and/or play therapy.
